A Formal Affair

Description

For round three of the Pokemon Pageant, we were to doll our trainer in formal attire inspired by a gym leader. Sumire was first shown at work as a fiber farmer with a Mareep ewe, and down on the beach with a Skiploom. For round three, she is dressed in a Heian era kimono, with a Bellossom. I chose a Heian era kimono because the trainer she was inspired by, Erika, is already dressed in a formal kimono herself (a furisode). I had to figure out a way to step that up, as I had to "dress her to the nines".

At her side again is her ninetales, Kenchiyu. The two of them share a very close bond, so he has been with her throughout all three rounds. He is always looking after her, and has for many years.

The base for Sumire is by Meo24, who unfortunately no longer has an active website. For the ninetales, I referenced this lovely painting to help me figure out the pose.

The Pokemon Pageant has been soooo much work, but I'm really glad that I did it. It forced me to go outside my comfort zone and while some things didn't work so well, I got valuable experience from it. I am happy to accept critique, as it helps me improve.

I really don't know what to say about your artwork I'm not understanding much from pixel art but I'll try to give you a critique anyway <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s…" width="15" height="15" alt=":)" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="391" title=":) (Smile)"/>

It's a very cute and sweet pixel art. The trees and stones at the background are made very well. The girl's dress is also nice but her right hand seems a little weird: It's like at first sight I can't be sure if it's behide her back or on her mouth but otherwise the proportions seem fine to me.
The shading at the floor and the stones are made very well and it gives the artwork some realistic feeling even when it is a pixel art.
